Broadcaster Channel 4 is teaming up with the National Film and Television School (NFTS) to launch a series of UK-wide virtual open days focused on training and development for independent production companies and freelancers.

The open days, which are part of a new two-year partnership between Channel 4 and the NFTS, will begin in Bristol on March 17 before moving on to Belfast, Glasgow, Cardiff and Leeds. Channel 4 is newly headquartered in Leeds and will establish a hub in the city.

The free open days will include appearances from senior Channel 4 figures, including digital commissioners and audience researchers. Meanwhile, there will also be a series of workshops dedicated to career development for people working in the TV industry.

Channel 4 Managing Director for the Nations and Regions Sinead Rocks said: “Although offices remain closed due to COVID, we want to continue building relationships and ensure Channel 4 is as accessible as possible, particularly to smaller and emerging indies across the UK.”

“It’s also really important we continue to offer support and development to the industry, especially to producers and freelancers in the nations and regions and I am thrilled that our new partnership with the NFTS will provide those opportunities.”

Meanwhile, Jon Wardle, Director of the NFTS, added: “We are delighted to partner with Channel 4 over the next two years to run these dynamic training and development programmes which will ensure participating independent production companies and freelancers stay at the cutting edge of the rapidly evolving world of television.”
