Social media giant Facebook has announced that it will create 500 jobs in London by the end of 2019 at a new engineering centre in Soho.
The new office will concentrate on solving one of Facebook’s major current problems – people who use the platform to share illegal, harmful or misleading content. Tools that draw on artificial intelligence technology will be key to their response to the issue.
Around 100 of the new jobs will be artificial intelligence related, with a “significant number” also in its Community Integrity Team, which works on preventing spam and abuse, removes fake accounts and tackles violence and personal safety.
The new centre will mean that London will be the company’s biggest engineering hub outside of the United States, pushing up the total number of people employed by Facebook in the capital to three thousand people across three sites.
This will significantly increase the opportunities for work as a contractor. Contracting work in the engineering sector at a high contracting rate considering the financial superiority of Facebook to other companies in its sector.
